Most companies track missed calls as a number. Few calculate what that number actually means in money.
Let’s do the math.
Say your business gets 100 inbound calls per day. Industry average: 7–10% are missed. That’s 7–10 missed calls daily.
Now estimate: what’s your average deal value? $500? $2,000? Even if only 30% of those missed calls were potential clients (the rest being existing customers or wrong numbers) — you’re looking at 2–3 lost sales opportunities per day.
At $500 average deal: $1,000–1,500 per day in missed revenue.
At $2,000 average deal: $4,000–6,000 per day.
Per month. Per year. The number gets uncomfortable fast.
And that’s just the direct cost. Missed calls also mean:
— Clients who call a competitor instead and never come back
— Repeat callers who lose trust after the second missed attempt
— Support issues that escalate because nobody picked up
The fix isn’t always “hire more agents.” It’s usually:
— Call queuing so clients wait instead of getting a busy signal
— Overflow routing to a backup line during peak hours
— Callback requests for clients who don’t want to hold
These are configuration changes, not headcount changes.
